    Need some mono setup help...

    Hi guys!

I just bought a 22 1/2" mono (ETTI Oriental Dragon w/ flood chamber) and I am wondering about a few things.

First, I am looking at the Speedmaster Stinger (for 3/16" shaft)
and Speedmaster rudder (4" Blade w/ 2" offset bracket) combo on OSE...Is this going to be a good size for this mono?

Next, I have a Nemesis 540 8L, an ETTI Navy 70 amp ESC and am looking to use a pair of 2S 3300 25C lipos to power it. Any thought on this setup?

I also have a Feigao 380 8L to use...not sure of this motor with that setup though...

    Any help is WELL Appreciated!!

    -Kent

Not sure if the Navy 70 will be enough. Start with small prop!

one 3S1P 4500 would probably be a better choice and that would still be a hot setup. I presume you were thinking in series for your setup, in parallel not a problem

Hi Kent, I think a speedmaster stringer strut is too long for that hull. It measures
3 1/2" from the transom back to the drive dog. I would go with a regular strut that
        is nearer the transom. Regards

Thanks sailr! A small prop is going to be on my "to start with" list.

Hi Dougie! Yes, the lipos will be in parallel...seems to be the way to go to keep things cooler and more forgiving!

Norman...Thanks for the stinger suggestion. I was looking at the small Speedmaster strut. Would that be the ticket? Is there a stinger I could get for this boat though?...I really like the small adjustments that can be made with the Speedmaster Stinger...

          You guys are great!

I'd have to agree with Norman2. The speedmaster stinger is too big for this hull. You might want to try something like this. The 540 motor is probably too big as well. The 380L is a better choice. I tried a 540S in my MHZ Speedmaster (21") and it didn't work out. I'm now running a 480S 3900kV on 2S and, believe it or not, it is much faster.

Kent, the Speedmaster stinger is easy to shorten; hacksaw & de-burr with a file. Trim the removeable bushing to fit.

I think i'm going to go with the 380 8L...it has a higher kv than the Nemesis, plus I only have a cooling jacket for the 380 right now. Are you using two 2S packs in paralell? Wire drive or flex?

                Thanks,

properchopper, thanks for the stinger info and the pic! Chuck E. Cheese gave me the same advice...i'm going with it...

What Tony Said... The Stinger will work perfectly on that hull... just trim it down like Tony shows...

That sounds just like the old O-Mono setups we used to run. I ran my 8L on a Barracuda 80 for two seasons with 8-cells without an issue... Props were in the X440-X442 range, or ABC 42x55. It should be a great setup with if you parallel those 2S packs, and will have the added benefit of being N2-Mono legal (if the hull isn't stepped)... so you could race it in NAMBA if you choose to do so.

The hull might be a tad small for the power, but I think it would be fine. The setup I mention above was run in a 22" El Lobo II, which didn't have the V that your hull does, so was quite a handful.

The SV stinger will work fine as well and cheaper. It also has torque angle built in. I have one left. Run it with a wiredrive and you will have a good set up. Find a matching rudder in blue and you can have hardware for it cheap and will do the job easily. Short stingers can make it harder to trim. Longer gives you more control and in rouger water....the prop stays in the water better.

Did you run a .130 or .150 flex? Wire drive? 3/16" stub stepped down to 1/8"?

The boat had .130 with 3/16" stub... Never had a need for 1/8" props on that boat... The ABC 42x55 and 45x55 worked great on that one, but again, remember, this was a heat racing setup with NiMH cells (8-cells). Runtime is limited. Stepping down to an X438 would be warranted for longer running.

Thanks Jeff! Unfortunately, I have already ordered the Speedmaster hardware. The Wire drive idea sounds good though...and I already have one I bought from you just waiting to be used. I think I may need an 1/8" to .078 coupler if I go that route though...
