I converted the Typhoon by the same manufacturer to R/C
Just a Darke Horse 785 motor in it on 3s does a good scale speed but the prop cavitates a bit at higher speeds because of the step under the rear of the hull.
You won't have that problem though.
I say go for it. Those Rivas can be made to go pretty well but they are heavy & at 900mm long need a fair bit of power to perform.
Make sure you slosh a lot of epoxy resin in the hull everywhere as the timber can swell & that lovely finish on the outside can crack along the plank lines.
Here's a couple of pics of the typhoon. The one in the water is at about 3/4 speed. Scale speed that is.

I love scale! I have seen the Rivas up close on the Italian Riviera. That was in the 70's when I lived in Europe. Most beautiful boats in the world!

Any idea of the pricing on these? Looked at their website and didn't see anything

I bought mine off on Ebay seller (Ship Ahoy) here in Oz for AU$250.00
What's that at the moment, about US$200.00
I also have the Torpedo & the Miss Behave ready for conversion.
Mind you they are all 'static' display models. They require a fair bit of butchering to fit the gear. They do make some ready for R/C conversion like the Riva & Riviera as posted by Monster Maxx.
I don't know of any sellers in the States but the scale guys might know over on R/C Groups or R/C Universe.

Any tips to convert or "butcher" one of the 35" Riva Aquarama ready-for-RC boats ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...E:L:OU:US:1120 ) to RC? They got two props, so would two 28x60 brushless cans be enough to shove it along at a scale speed? 2x 60A speedos and one 3S...

I've bought a couple of these but haven't fitted them yet. Too many other boats to build & maintain.
