a 1521/1.5D is plenty for a 1/10 scale... the 1527 would be overkill... that may be a good thing for some, hehehhehehe.

4s and the prop will depend on the boat, maybe an M445 to start.

Yes, at least 30C, if you are on a shoe string budget, the Zippy or Hyperion cells seem to be doing the trick...
there is a noticeable difference in punch to the newer 35C cells.
There are mixed reviews as far as ESCs go. The Hydras owners are not very happy w/ customer service they are getting (or not getting)... ETTI seems to have fewer complaint about customer care but is newer on the market... it's a tough call.

Is this boat just for fun, or intended for racing?? If it's a true 1/10th scale, then either motor is WAY overkill... and frankly, not legal for NAMBA 1/10th racing...

The 1521 will be more than enough, however to get you into the 50s...

The 1521/1.5D will work great and should give mid-50s, but it really likes 2P as it does draw some amps. You may have a tough time getting 2P packs into that hull and maintain the currect CG; you'll probably have to add weight anyway. An alternative would be a 9XL or 10XL, these draw fewer amps but still give decent speeds and will swing a large enough prop for that big hull.

As usual, it really depends on how much you want to spend, how fast you want to go, and how long you want to run.

Would a 5s pack work to for extra speed

With 5S you will need a different motor, the Kv of that motor is too high and amp draw will soar. My 1521/1.5D Sport Hydro (an Aeromarine Sport 21) hits 58+ mph during a heat race, and I run 4S2P with 4400/28C packs. It pulls around 150 amps average in heat racing and the Hydra240 works great. I don't know how fast it could go in a SAW configuration, certainly well into the 60s. It has been 100% reliable too, knock wood.

Part of your problem will be the choice of hull. There are two twin-wing H&M hulls and neither was designed for LiPos. It is very tough to get weight far enough forward to keep the boat from blowing off. Plan on adding 1 to 2 pounds of lead in those hulls. They look cool, but are not the best for modern power setups.

A friend of mine is running one of these with a 1515/2.5D on 4S2P. He says it's running well after a fair bit of tuning (in fact he loves it!). I'll see if I can get some details from him on where he fits his cells and where his motor sits.

Edit: He's a member on here, so send David Kingston a PM if you want some details.
