    Hull reinforcement

I was planning to reinforce the my OM21 hull where the motor is going to be mounted....i was innitially going to use a sheet of CF, but since that is out of stock, that wont be the case...

Theirs also fiberglass, but the only one in stock is the heavy 5oz cloth...would this add too much weight? I read that you need to layer it a few times before it has the same strength as a layer of CF, so if i did this, weight would be a problem...its a small boat so it needs to stay as light as possible...

If anyone has some advice please respond...

Nothing wrong with good old plywood for reinforcing plastic hulls. Either some rails with a motor mount between them, or simple some sheeting on the floor.

I would use ply before glass mat. CF mat would be first choice.

yeah i was thinking ply, but i thought it wouldnt conform well with the hull and wanted something that would be able to fill in the nooks and crannies...maybe i could lay down some rails for the stringers, and put sheet between them, or maybe sand them down so some thin sheet could lay over them....

the motor will be a 540S in this case....and the mount will be this one ( http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...?prod=cen-bj16 )

and thanks Diego, good timing too...tomorrow is when i should order some stuff from this site....

I find that you dont get as much stiffness as you do with CF, but you still get alot of durability. 5 oz. is pretty heavy(?), but if you use this it will give the hull a fair amount of backup. Coupled with short ply rails and you'll be set

I was thinking ply rails. I use them in my OM 26 with no other reinforcement, and it was good for 4 years of solid sport running and racing. The boat is still running, but I have since added some CF mat to extend it's life even further. It should be more than enough for your OM21.

There's a couple of pics in this thread (with and without the CF mat) - http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ghlight=stoner

I had also built a Scat Cat the same way and used that motor mount you have show there. However, that mount is pretty wide, and will take up a fair bit of space in your boat. MAybe find a narrower mount if you can.

how about this one? it would be a lot easier to mount and would make the interios setup a lot cleaner ( http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...rod=tfl-502b12 ).....it also wont requre me to make a platform to mount it on (like i would have to with the other mount)...so it should also save weight too...

BTW that a clean looking OM26......
