    Wetmate Connectors, A Better Solution?

OK, I know there's been a lot of discussion regarding Deans not being able to handle the higher amperage and the dangers of hooking up bullet connectors incorrectly.

Has anyone heard of Wetmate connectors? They are used extensively in the diving and ROV world. I've seen them in my office and we have used for high-wattage underwater lighting running off of 10+ cells of Lion batteries.

I don't have the specs for how much amperage they can handle, but they make it through salt water during underwater swapping of batteries.

Here are a few pictures. I'll see if I can come up with some specs.

I'm still trying to find the specs on these, but other Wet-Mate connectors can handle up to 2 mega watts @ 200 amps continuous.

Any way you can put an ohm meter on a set in your office?

I don't see why not! They are wired to a few things though and not separate, so I don't think you could get an accurate reading. I attempted to contact our supplier today for specs and pricing. I imagine I'll hear back from them today or tomorrow.

Plus, I'd be interested in one size up from this. It's amazing that they do not corrode in salt water and are rated for 1000+ connection during it's lifetime. That's just unreal. Meanwhile, I'm going to take those numbers with a grain of salt until I can confirm that they are "the greatest thing since sliced bread". LOL

As long as they're not too expensive, I'll pick some up and we can get good readings from them. Also, we'll be able to test them to see if they hold up to our application.

You're more than welcome to stop by and check them out in person though. Just give me a heads up so I can dig them out of the inventory closet!

Yeah, I'm an idiot for not putting two and two together sooner, LOL!

I believe these connectors can suit well in boats over 1.8m. They look big and should weigh a lot.

Key feature of it seems to be the water tight design, which is actually not a must for RC boating IMO, unless for a submarine having wires submerged in the water.

Having held them, they're not very heavy. I haven't held the last picture posted featuring the integral Y connector, but I can imagine that that weighs more.
