    DF 29 setup

Here's a bit off the backstory. My brother and I were racing as only brothers would do, trading a bit of paint. His SV didn't finish the race, cracked hull. So I got him a df29 and put all of his components in it. He loves the handling now but wants a bit more speed than the sv motor and esc can provide. The boat will run on 4s. There is a 10xl in the swap shop I was thinking about. What esc would he need for it? Would this be a good setup or is the something else I should consider. I think he would be happy if it went 40mph or so.
Keep in mind he is a cheap sob.
    Thanks

The 10xl will get you 40mph easy. I'd get at least a 120 amp esc. You can find good cheapos on ebay, such as the Hobbywing Seaking esc's.

I would go with an 8xl in the 29" hull. Its what I have in mine, she flies and handles like a charm. A Hydra 120 or Etti 150 will do the trick. Good luck.

          8xl hydra120 and a x440/3 or m442 will be a good race setup

Thanks for the help. Which would be the better sport motor on 4s 8xl,9xl,10xl ? Longer runtimes and a reliable setup would be more important than gaining a few mph. I run a 9xl in my 29'' mono with speeds in the mid to upper 40s, but things do heat up after 4-5 min. He is used to run times of 10 min with his sv, not sure if thats possible with one one of these setups or not.
