28-30" hull, x642, on 8s lipos 35C. Will this motor hold up, or be comparable to a Neu? Thx

That set-up sounds like overkill to me! 8S in a 28-30" hull with a huge 580 motor is waaaaay too much IMO. Rather look at a 36-40" hull...

i guess the main question is will the motor hold up to this setup? i have been thininking of getting a neu but am interested to try on of these.

            On 8s lipo power I would suggest a 580 12L.

A 580 6L motor likes to run a 120 amps. 120amps x 30 approx volts = 3600 watts. I know I'm kind of simplifying the numbers. But its just to show that it wont work.

                      I suggest 4s for a hydra 240 and your setup. I would suggest 540 8xl, 540 9xl or 540 10xl. Or if you really want a 580L, I would suggest a 580 6L or 580 7L. Both motors on 4s lipo.

Ken, I've run my Titan 33 for quite some time with a 9XL [ Hydra LV 240/4S2P
/X442] and it ran low 50's. [ go to Youtube-search : Tony's Aeromarine..] Know that these hulls WILL get airborne in the 50's no matter what; those with these hulls - also the 33" Titan will confirm this. A 9XL will do just fine with a 120-150 amp SC, but the higher capacity you choose will give more headroom/safety. I'm liking the 580 can motors; you can't go wrong with one of those either. Keep the RPM's up, the prop no bigger than a 442, the motor in back and the batt's on the keel to avoid chine-walk. BTW I've since converted the boat to a Spec LSO with a SV-27 motor and soon a UL-1 motor ; ran it at the last NAMBA Nat's. like that ; even ran it in P-Offshore until a big bad P-Mono/Offshore monster creamed it in a turn-[ patched it up with Bondo & made the next heat ! ]
