I will assume direct drive to the prop, correct?

that is correct. I was planning to keep things simple, just 'bolt' the airscrew propellor to the shaft.

        Rex,
I'm no expert on airplane props, but maybe you should work it the other way around. Get the hull (size and weight) then choose a prop that will fit the boat, then find a motor that will turn it.
Here's an RC airboat forum that may be able to help you better with that question.

About a 6 x 5 would be MAX. Inrunner's have no torque, only high RPM. Check your temps really well! You would be MUCH better off getting an outrunner motor! Tell me more about the airboat. Length, width, weight, etc. and I'll make a recommendation to you.

projected length & width 24"l, 14"w, weight ???.(still on the drawing board ). will be mostly foam, balsa, and thin ply.

after due consideration (and info, thanks F) I decided that I'll try something a bit smaller like this http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXE383&P=7 instead.

You could get a 22mm-28mm outrunner motor that will swing a 6" prop. It would be a rocket on 3S 1000mAh-1500mAh battery and about a 20-25A esc.

This a REALLY small airboat. I'd encourage something bigger. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXE385&P=7 . but you'd want to go up to a 35mm outrunner.

I'd like to have one of these without the nitro engine! http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXURN3**&P=ML
