    Feigao motor

    Hi all,
I've got an 8XL running under 12 cells on this
I just received my Eagle Tree ordered at OSE and started to make bench test to see how this beautyfull thing works.
I did measure volts and amp at no load on my 8XL and, holly cow!... 12 amps at no load and prop shaft not connected!???
Should be around 3 isn't it?
So I took my ampmeter and confirmed 12 amps!
Is this somehow normal? Are given datas depending on operating voltage? I guess yes but how many volt then?
Does anybody running a 7, 8 or 9 xl could confirm what I've seen?
    Emmanuel

I havent uses a Eagle tree or measured the current, but with no load they run very inefficiently. I bench test things to test for binding and alignment and when I do I notice they get hot very quickly.

That's exactly what I got too, dead hot in one minute run!
      Strange?

No, not strange at all. Even brushed 05 car motors get hot running without load - virtually all that power is turned directly into heat. Look at the efficiency curves for BL motors sometime - high performance motors like some of the Neus are most efficient at over 200 amps!

          That's good news then! :D

I though my motor was smoked!
But this really can't be, my ESC is an 80amps Mystery, so even if it can support 90amps, as some guys said, that's just above the 83max amp given by Feigao for the 8xl!

Thanks for these info guys, that is something I was not even guessing or suspecting!

What the motor makers says and what the motor will do are two different things. In this case the 8XL will handle more than 83 amps, although I doubt that your cells will for much longer than 2-3 minutes based on what some of our club members have done with their Feigao 8XLs. In spikes and for short duration acceleration it will handle well over 100 amps. It all depends on how big of a prop you use and how wet the boat runs.

you are right Fluid, that's why I purchased the Eagle tree recorder.
I would say that from the day I started, I've learn a lot (thx OSE) and for the boat I have, a 10 or a 12 xl would have been better than the 8xl, I'll have the numbers by the end of the week end!

I'm running a K40.5 prop, and for such a large hull ,a bigger prop would be better I think, with your 2x10xl, your boat's gonna fly Mich. and you should be able to use 45mm dia props

                    Hey hey!
We tested the Eagle Tree MicroPower today (or did we tested some boat? can remember :D), it's just great!
Here's what we saw with the 8xl running a K40,5 prop...
                    1) with 2 packs in parallel of 12 GP2200nimh:
                    68A peak 58A average, voltage dropped to 9V, maxpower 630W average 540W

                    2) with 1 pack of cheap 4000nimh:
                    75A peak 68A average, voltage dropped to 11V, maxpower 840W average 760W

Now I know what's going on! And it's going faster with the single pack!

                    So I've got 24 GP2200 for sale :D

here are the graph with amps and volts but no rpm cause I don't have the sensor yet!
I'll purchase it next month as well as some IB4200 :D
the first graph is with 2x12xGP2200 in parallel
the second is with 12 cheap 4000 nimh... much better voltage, higher amps and 600grams less than GP's
these runs were done on a narrow canal so each 5 second peak correspond to approximately 230-250 feet of run
it's great to be able to compare isn't it!
