    Twin drive mono hull

It is very rare to have twin drive in a R/C mono hull, but in real boats it is very common.
Has anyone tried to build a twin drive mono? I am thinking of trying one, I have a spare 36" mono and some parts...

Hmm.. interesting. A good friend was suggesting and me dreaming with the idea on my Lizard X about 4 months back. But brush it off for single drive. Main reason,... financial... got to buy pairs for everything. But i was assured that the hull wont exps barrel roll and sounds good on twin drive.

I have done it on my first boat (33" NQD Xcyclone, poor kyosho copy), I had two Speed600 Race, the main concern was that one prop would come out of water in turns, creating a thrust lost, and because I was always turning the same direction (right) the right motor was overheating, little smoke at the end of each run!!! I went to my first BL then, single drive

Well... that's a brilliant point to consider. Never thought of it.

With long stingers or struts maybe this can be solved. I think that the prop. shafts should be as low and as close to the centreline as possible.

But does anybody know why many real mono hull fast boats are twin drive? This can solve the torque roll as well, maybe.

probably because they run straight almost all the time or very large curve that have very few bad effect on prop thrust! but you're right prop are very close to each other, I'm thinking of a famous example, a buddy on the french forum is building one and is making the Z-drive himself , the Colibri is the name of the boat.

the thing is that real boats can have feature that are not possible on our model, exaust gaz in front of prop to force cavitation certainly help to have the prop much deeper and not as depth sensitive in curves, hydraulic ontrolled trim tabs to keep the hull flat in curves... just suppositions!

here is the Colibri, you can see on the drawing that the props are very low, below the keel and almost touching each other...

if you look at the very end of this video, you'll see the strange step in front of prop, I suspect there is something particular in it!

Ive been planning this type of mono with either Zdrives or outboards for a long time now. I'm going to use a big hull. Probably 35+ with a mild deadrise. It will be more scale than FE but I'll be looking for 30 mph+ minimum.

A couple of Black Hawk Z-Drives would look great.

You can get them in standard rotation and counter rotation.

SJFE, if you plan this to build this particular model, the Colibri, there are very few on the market (MHZ I think) and some nice home made in France, the really scale ones are really narrow hulls (50"x9.5"), not the MHZ and it is certainly more stearable and stable than the exact scale ones.
The Colibri has been my favorite boat since I was a kid and I'm really looking forward to seeing how my buddy ends up with his home made Zdrive!!! He is not looking for performance though!

I just started a thread about this then found this one

what about twin motors with a tranny like we do in twin motor revo amd emax setups...twin motors going to one drive...its got to give you more torque and wouldnt be too hard to fabricate
lets face it reason for this is eliminating the high cost of the one motor that would push a big 40" plus hull

so would two feigao do the job

                          two feigao's used $100
                          two 120 amp esc's $200

pretty reasonable if it would work

could use my FDM tranny and modify

Beautiful job on the machined strut also , saved the picture certainly some thing I would like to try as a winter project

Bustitup, you'd better use a big Feigao 580 instead of 2 XLs with 2 ESC... eliminating the tranny risk of failure!
