Does anyone know what can be done for performance upgrades??

I don't have one of these, nor am I an expert in rc boats, but I'm guessing that changing out the brushed motors for brushless, removing the power robing hardware with milled aluminum hardware, replace the prop, and changing the batteries to high voltage, high mah lipo's would do the job. But I'm guessing that you already know this and are looking for more specific things to do to it.HK Genesis, DF Vortex, Baja 5T, Lazer ZX-5 sp, XXX, 8T, P51-D Mustang Shangrila, GP Giant P51-D Mustang, Blade 400 3D, with way too many more to list.Comment

Swapping out one brushless motor for two of the brushed motors will be a big impovement. The only issue with this is the universal on the outdrive. They wear out quickly with higher power.Steven Vaccaro

I've seen the single 8 or 9xl conversion now come to think of it. You can always replace the factory shaft with a flex shaft. Run it straight to the out drive. Pull out the bushings in the out drive and sleave it to accept a propshaft and you will have corrected most of the ware problem.Comment

Yup, Tom, I still have mine - gettin' a little dusty on the shelf, 'tho ! Here's what I've found after a year's worth of experimentation :The boat is a great looking RTR, but it was made to be used as delivered. Think : " A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link ". As soon as you beef up one part, something else gets overstressed. Parts that will fail if pushed too hard : speed control , ball/cup outdrive ( wears out quickly, eats power), steerable outdrive ( steers differently at different speeds), and the hull itself ( thin and prone to cracking). I got mine over thirty mph with a modded outdrive, turn fins, 700SC & a Jeti 600 on 16 NIMH's. Hull developed stress cracks at this point, BTW.I stopped there, this was before brushless and lipo were readily available. I'd recommend a simple "Stage 1" upgrade : Titan 23T motors, Jeti 600, and 4S lipo . Mod the outdrive with a better U-Joint [ easy with some simple parts; ask me & I'll explain]. To go "all out", dump the outdrive & go with a strut & rudder, brushless & lipo. Requires major hull reinforcement & surgery, but that's how we learn !2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap
