    Setup Question

I took my new 29 rico mono out for the first time today. I was very impressed with how stable the boat was but I didn't get the speeds I was looking for. The setup is
    29'' rico mono
    9xl
    etti 150
    cog 30%
    tabs 0%
    strut 0%
I did two 2 min runs, one with a x440 and one with a x442
    x440 run - 34 mph motor 90deg, lipo 86deg, caps 101deg(board was much cooler)
    x442 run - 38 mph motor 93deg, lipo 92deg, caps 107deg(board was much cooler)
The question is what should my target speed be for this setup and what adjustments should I make to achive it?

I assume your were using 4s.

Boat may have been running too wet and tight. Try loosening boat up a little

    Try a larger prop (m445)

If you are still not happy with speed try 5s lipo using smaller prop such as x440 or x442

battery setup is 4s2p elite 4500s
As for as props I have x440,x442,x637,m445,x640 all are s+b
I wanted to start small on the prop, I have learned from my mistakes. It seems the temps were low enough where I could try a larger prop, but I guess I should try to free up the boat a bit first. Should I do this by raising the strut 1 or 2 deg?

I set my strut level with hull and then adjust trim tabs. The farther you go down on the trim tabs the tighter the boat will run.

Any idea on what I should expect for speeds proped right and setup to run dry? I was thinking low to mid 40s but i'm not sure. I am also going to put the data logger in next time to see what I'm pulling for amps and rpm.

Correct, a 11/12XL and 5S could be fun.

They are 30c lipos. just charged them and I used 1600mah out of each pack for both runs combined.

with the setup you first posted i am surprised its not going faster. I would have guest mid 40's with the x442. If the boat was running wet like someone said that might be your prob. Also (just a shot in the dark) maybe the ESC is not programed right maybe timing? Good luck am sure your get it figured out

I guess I'll have to do some more testing to figure out exactly what the problem is. The esc is a posibility, it took me a while to set up and I'm still not confident its right. The timing is set to low(2deg) and the pwm is set to 8k. I don't think the rpm was as high as it should be, but that could be the esc or the boat running too wet.
Thanks for the help guys I'll make some adjustments and try again

There have been quite a few guys having trouble programming the ETTIs. Rumor has it there is a programing box in the works.
I'd put some positive in the strut and ease the cg back until you get her aired out a bit Kevin. Then give that M445 a try.
Post some video if you can.

i have a DF29 with SV27 electrics and 25C 8000 lipos and was dissappointed with a X642, switched to a X447 and it really "woke up" the boat. BIG difference. CF45 will be next.

I also am suprised at the low speeds for your Rico. I run my DF29 on Flightpower 4s2p 10,000 mah, Feigao 8xl, Etti 150, Octura X640. Speed is in the low 50's depending on water condition. I would go along with Doug in suggesting to loosen her up a little, then try a larger prop, also don't forget that these hulls need very little negative if any on the trim tabs.

Edit: Video would help us to see whats going on also.........not to mention that we all love a video!!!

I know the components I have will get me to 45+, its just a matter of tuning. Some boats come right off the work bench into the water and run great, others just take a little more work to get them there. It was the first time out and there were some positives, the hull seemed rock solid even though it was only 38mph, there wasn't a drop of water on the inside and no smoke.

I used to run a Toysport Triton on 4s 1p with a 9xl and the smallest prop I used was a m447, I say prop up mate
