    Lipo Fire During Shipment

A friend of mine ordered some lipos out of China and noticed that they were being held at customs for over a week. He called customs to see what the holdup was and was told that 1 pack out of the 4 was unusable and had to come and claim the parcel since they weren’t going to ship it further, but never mentioned why. Once he drove to the airport to pick it up he saw what happened. Unfortunately they cut to far into the box while checking out the package or dropped it to cause this.

Ahh, I see the problem- it starts with D, ends with L and has an H in the middle :D. They have to be the WORST, most ghetto shipping company out there!

Not sure if it's all DHL's fault, I did find out the contents label had only toy parts listed and nothing about batteries. Fragile was never on the box either( I know that just means throw me harder...) and I'm not sure how well the cell's were packed.

LiPos are ORMD and can't be shipped by air.

They don't mark the boxes correctly in order to allow them to get onto planes. They are risking the flight crew's safety. Just think if they were US Mail, they could be flying on an airliner with hundreds of people on board...

Buy from a more reputable company next time.

I've bought Lipos (and other items) from 'Himodel' in China on several occasions. They are packed well & they use DHL for shipping. Never had a problem.
The parcels are delivered within 3 days of payment, from China to Brisbane, Australia via Korea. By air all the way.
Nothing but praise for them here.
Of course that will change when I have my first problem with them, I s'pose.
                          All the best.

I would say you should always start by going to your local hobby shop and buying from him. If he is unable to provide the product you need, then look to other shops or distributors in your state/province. If that doesn't work, look to other nearby places. Since you're in Canada, eh, you might try looking at the US.

If you must use mail order, ask them if they ship ORM-D products by air. They must be licensed to do so, and even then, not all ORM-D products can be shipped by air (some can). Whether they are legal to ship or not, they must still have the ORM-D label on them.

While I do not normally recommend Wikipedia, in this case they did a pretty good job.

The USPS also has a very good set of rules on their site.

After you read that, scroll down to "10.20.6 Secondary Lithium-ion (Rechargeable) Cells and Batteries". Note that 24g of Li is the maximum allowable in a single package. That ain't very much!

I particularly avoided listing any vendors on purpose.

                            I hope this helps.

Maybe it got in the hands of HDS @ some point.

Anyway, that still sucks. Sorry it happened.
