Boat building help needed!

Hi guy's i am building the graupner eco manta and I don't for the life of me get what #16 is in the instructions? (look at photos)
Way would you want big holes in the boat in the area shown in the boat diagram on the most bottom wing?
What should i do ...I think i want to leave it with no holes...Please If some body knows what this is can you help a fellow boater out as i don't get it at all.
THANKS...PS i did my first ever brush cooling system and i also found out a neat way to seal the hoses on the piping...I simply cut a little section of RC fuel line and used a needle nose plyers and streatched it over the end of the normal hose you use ...this way when you slide it on the pipes you get like a natural clamp to seal the hose better. (see little green sections of fuel line in photos)

These instructions deal with fitting a flood duct or flood chamber, a method of making the boat self-righting. If you flip the boat, the flood chamber fills with water and rolls the boat upright again.

You don't have to fit it, but it's highly recommended, as these small ECO boats can be very quick and you will almost certainly flip it over sooner or later.

Thanks for the info.... won't the big holes fill up as you run the boat though?

I think i will let it stay flipped and not drill the holes as to me it looks like the hull will get much weaker from the holes...I trust my good old rescue boat

No it wont the forward motion stops the water filling the flood chamber

The floodchamber"wall" will increase the overal structure of the hull !!!

It fills with water when you stop, but as soon as you gain forward motion the water will run out of the big holes in the back. Don't worry about the strength, it will have been designed to be strong enough with the holes cut out, if you like using your rescue boat fair enough, but I would rather be running a fast boat again a couple of seconds after a flip than have to go get a rescue boat, herd my fast boat in then untape to check for water ingress whilst its been upside down, tape up again and finally get going fast again.

I would think you want the hole flat along the bottom at least to let the water out as easily as possible, I would play join the dots with lots of drill holes and a knife then file the serrations smooth.
