    How to use this prop

    Hi guys,

I ordered an Ocutra 447 prop, and the Hughey .187 cable, and the Speedmaster Stinger Strut. I'm a little confused as to how the prop stays on the cable.

Am I right in thinking it goes like this:

Drive Dog | Prop | Nut

I'm pretty certain thats correct, what I am worried about is how the cable seems to have around 1mm to move up and down in the strut, its not a snug fit like I believe it should be. I haven't lost the insert either.

If the bushing is in the strut, either you have the wrong size of flex cable or your bushing is worn out.

And yes, Drive dog - prop - nut

    ToySport Triton- Not as fast

If you got it from OSE send Steve a message. I noticed the same play in the speedmaster strut that the bushing has a little play when new also - in-out little up little down. In the beginning I left it as it is but when running the boat the bushing was coming out slightly and the prop shaft had more play. So I glued it with loctite threadlocker (strong) the bushing in the strut. I don't know if it is right or wrong but it works.

I wasn't entirely clear, the bushing is fine, but its as if the cable has too much room in there.

I got it from OSE, all the packaging was fine (.187 Cable, 3/16 Prop). And I got the strut suggested by some people on here a few months back.

This is the strut for 3/16 Shafts (seems correct) although the mounting holes are different. They may have changed the mounting holes since I bought it (I do have the label it came with etc.)

It is all new and never used.

If you hold the bushing with your fingers and slide the flex cable into it, do you still get the "wobble" as you move it back and forth/up and down?

This will tell you if your bushing is over-sized for the cable, or if the bushing is under-sized for the strut. If it's undersized for the strut, loctiting it in the strut may solve it. It just depends on how much wobble you have.

Mine have a tiny bit of play, but run fine.

It's when I put the cable in the strut. The bushing itself isn't what's moving, it's the cable, I'd understand a little up and down play, put I would say there is roughly a mil too much diameter to the bushing for the cable. It's odd because the cable has a 3/16 shaft, and the strut is made for 3/16 shafts.

              You need this:

i used 3/16 brass tubing with good result also.

The strut has that in it (I think it's called a bushing?)

I have some 3/16 tubing for the stuffing tube, I have a Teflon liner and the .187 cable, that all seems fine

The strut has one, but there is another one that is required. It is a loose piece that you put into the strut with the cable.

It should have come with the purchase of the strut.

when the strut said 3/16 size, its mean you still have to use 3/16 sleeve between stock strut's tube and your prop shaft, the sleeve is the part will wear out later and you just change the sleeve not whole strut.

So I am correct in thinking, I need another one of these in order to use my cable? The .187 cable I bought has the same amount of room inside my 3/16 tubing as it does in the strut with the loose piece in.

Although I'm beginning to think that the cable might be wrong, I will measure it with some callipers tomorrow.

that thing is the same with the same size brass tube you can found at your local hobby shop or even hobby lobby, and its much cheaper than that "thing", just bring your cable with you and try it at there before you buy it, its cost like $2.00 for 10" one.
yeah, 1st make sure your cable and prop's shaft are same size (3/16 or .187).

I think you have .150 cable. What did the original package state ?

I already have too much 3/16 tube, and the cable is not tight in it without the teflon liner.

I'm quite sure the package said .187 cable, but I will check tomorrow when I have it with me, just to be sure I'll use the callipers.

                              This thread is a mess.

You need ONE bushing in the strut.
If there is a 3/16" bushing in the strut, and you are running a 3/16" prop shaft and there is that much play.
                              Your not running 3/16" somewhere.
