    Re-Scaling PDF Cat Plan

Hi, Jesse J was kind enough to e-mail a pdf file of plans for a catamaran.
I copied to a CD but want to know how to re-scale to 30". Does a place like
Kinko's or UPS Store do this. Will appreciate any help. Thanks

you need to figure out the percentage then you can plug that number into the printer at Kinkos. How long is it on the plans?

I just pmd you, you are looking at this procedure:

for 32" cat plot 36"x42" for both pages. You should be able to tell them this page size then just have Acrobat "fit to page" and center and viola ready to fire up mr. bandsaw.

If you want different size, then multiply the length of your dream boat by: 30/23 or 1.3. this will give you the length of paper, for the width use this aspect ratio: 7/6 - L/W. so for 30" boat you want page size = 39.1" x 33.5"

      Hope this helps.

Sorry to be a bother, Once I have the plans in the correct size, do you know who
          can laser cut them. Thanks

That is probably something you want to find nearby, most cities have laser cutters on hand. On second thought, a potential problem with the laser cutter is this: you may end up with a whole pile of scrap wood when you find out that you have slots that are much larger than the thickness of the wood you have chosen. For example, the slots are 1/8" at some scale, I am not sure what that is, but the thickness of the lines allowed me to "trial and error" the right width with my bandsaw. I would rather do some trial and error first before sending off a potentially expensive laser cutting project.

            Just my perfectionism piping up.

Jesse. Wil follow your advice. I have a band saw so I will cut plan myself.
              Thanks, Norman2

You probably already have one, but when I bought mine, I got me a super fine toothed one to help with nice edges. On the long straight cuts, I used a knife and straight edge - saves sanding on those parts and is pretty easy cut.

Are you using ply or balsa? what thickness?

                  Cat Planas

Hi Jesse, I plan to use 1/8" ply for the framing and skin it with 1/16" balsa and then
epoxy. Hope this works. Again thanks

                    Norman,
I don't know if you saw in the directions regarding the sheeting; it says to do 1/16th balsa then cross grain that with 1/64" ply. I really do recommend the ply step, it is easy and quick (use contact cement for the ply part). It adds necessary rigidity to the hull and deck. I do all the underlying balsa cross ways (grain running shortest length) except the top of the deck. 1/16" alone is really pretty weak, even with epoxy, especially without glass. I did the 1/16 balsa and 1/64" ply on my 27" and then epoxy with glass and boy is it tough - and sealed to high heaven.

Oh, I did end up running a couple of balsa stringers to tie the bulkheads together along the sides, this also keeps the sides flat and give support to the balsa when handling.

Jesse, I will be doing the 1/64 ply covering over the balsa I just forgot to mention it.
I live in Brevard North Carolina in the Western part of the state. The only UPS store
in town can only print to 36" x 24" inch. This will give me a 28" cat. I am going to
find the nearest town that has a Kinkos to see if they can do better or I may settle
for 28". Now trying to decide what hardware and if to go brushed or brushless. My
Titan 29 has SV power and esc, X447 prop and I still use NIMH cells. It won many
races last year in our club in LSO so I am very happy with it. Attahced photo.

Look into places that print for archetects......They will usually be cheaper and they will be more likely to help and make sure you get what you want....This really helps when scaleing.... Most even decent sized cites will have these kinds of places.... It more intended for the business types than random walk ins .
And yes scaleing up will change certain demensions that well you might not want that way...
Twin cat 9xl,... 29 titan 8xl,....37 in mono kb48 8xl.... 42 in twin elc cat project... 42 in gasser cat 260 modded zenoh''' planes and trucks....

Norman, I can get your plans plotted and at the scale you are after. We have a plotter at work and don't cost nuttin.

what size boat did you want: 30 or 32"? 32 is the max unless you want to go messing with the plans, which is always an option (rearranging the layout in a drafting program).

PM me with preferred size and your address and I will try to get them plotted this week, possibly tomorrow and sent ASAP.

Hi Jesse, I would really appreciate your plotting it for me. I would like to make
a 30" cat. I have always been a deep-vee man but I really want to build a cat
from scratch because I have not been able to find a 30" cat hull that I like except
the one from your plans. My Address is

I realize that cats are hard to get them handling but I am sure people in the
forums will help me out. Again cannot thank you enough.
