This may or may not help.
I am about to set up a coupler for a new boat. 5mm shaft to .062 wire.
The way I will do it is to go for a 5mm to .187"or 3/16" and then step it down with brass tubes. The tubes (soldered) will secured by the coupler and then the wire will be secured to the inside of the brass tube by Loctite and a brass wheel collar.
The wire will have a flat ground on to it.

This system works very well for my 6-7 cell or 2S setups on a 1/8 shaft.
I see no reason that it will not work on a 5mm shaft.
I really hope that it works, and will know for sure in about 4-6 weeks.

To do 078 wire this may take a little more work with the tube size.
I will do some measuring down in the workshop in the morning and see what it will take.
    See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

Anyone else? What I do like about this style is it is fast and easy. I certaily like the set screw style but this allows you to not use a flat side on the wire.

                  Jeff,

Let me know when you have those made... I'd like to see them as well... I do NOT like the set-screw type... and would like to get the collet style...

Got it. Yes, the set screw can be a bit hard on wire but I have not had any slip.

You will like these. I will post them as soon as I can shoot a pic.

                      Thanks Jeff...

It's not so much the slip as it is the simple hastle of trying to tighten them in the first place...

Looking forward to seeing what you have there...

Add me to the list of those who would prefer a collet style over set screws. I am very interested.
