areomarine Sprint Cat with way to much power

I have this http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id...84&pid=W001765 I also have areomarine Sprint Cat .80/.90 Hull w/Turbine Cowl, L.O.A. - 42" Beam:15" For .80/.90 Nitro engines that I want to put it in. I have run many small fast boats. Some of you guys may remember me from being around here a year or so ago. I plan on running it on 8s2p emoli. any thought about what size drive line I will need. the motor has a 10mm shaft. I was running this boat with a 32cc echo motor and it was fun just not fast I am hoping this will pick the top speed up and I want have to jack with the gas motor.

The rpm is way to low on that motor. You would have to swing a gigantic prop.

Forget that motor, it is useless - sell it and use the money for something more appropriate (1500 watts is only 2 horsepower, below what your gas motor puts out). That hull can run extremely well as an FE boat, but to exceed the performance you had with gas you have to put more power in it - it's that simple. If you want to run with the fast gas guys you will want to run 10S with a minimum of 7000 mAh total capacity, 25C minimum. And the up-front cost will be very high; if all you have is the hull and hardware then expect to spend a minimum of $1500 more.

You will want a 1/4" drive line to insure reliability with a 10S setup and large prop.

well I dont race I have fun. the gas motor that was in there twisted about 6500 running a prather 275 which is 2.95x4.2. I thought on 8s I should be able to get a few more rpms around 8500 and not have to jack with the gas. I guess not though. I wasn't trying to race gas boats or set a record just blast around having a little fun. with the gas motor I had to cut the latch for the motor to clear and I never liked that. I was hoping to order a new one and have a cleaner look also. Oh well. if I was to do it where could I find a 10mm to 1/4" adaptor. I have the drive line already?

        Thanks Mike

If that is your expectation, then you can get there with less full. IMO that motor is still not the choice though. That big cat must have been a slug with that low performance gas engine, no wonder you got bored. Did it actually even get up on plane and pack air in the tunnel? That is a high performance hull designed for speed....
