    lubing the fexshaft?

whats the best thing to use to lube the flexshaft? I am using high temp grease, and was thinking of using something lighter... thanks, in advance!

In my opinion what you are using is just about exactly what "Grim" sells. Just I like the white or clear grease as to not get any all over the hull.

might be better to ask what not to use...folks have tried many things. haven't heard of anyone using 'personal lubricant'...I've used a blend of multi-purpose chassis lube & chainsaw bar lube. I've also used 'super lube'. axle grease/wheel bearing grease is probably not a good choice...ditto wd40 and 3-in 1 oil.

I thought about trying 90 weight synthetic gear lube... don't know how well it would hold up, but I think it would have less drag..

I'm using 'Gorilla Snawt' brand synthetic grease I obtained on ebay. It's waterproof and has teflon in it. I don't use a plastic liner in the stuffing box and this seems to work well.

Dont get me wrong. Its good stuff in my opinion. I just wish they would have a hand holding the container. It will last me about 4 seasons it looks but, I wish I would have just stuck with the stuff I allready had in my hand.

I grease them, wire drives as well, then drop some drops of oil down it. Makes it really smooth and fast.

I run a combo, first I spray white lithium grease up the shaft with the thin red spary nozzle so it goes way up to the motor, then I cover the flex shaft lightly with the Grim Racer Speed grease, the two mix together very well and it last for two runs. White grease from a spray can is to light and the Grim really is too heavy by itself, but the mix of the two works great.

Mercury Quicksilver 2-4-C multi-purpose marine lubricant with teflon. One tube lasts for better than 1 season running several boats.
