New Lipo Storage Idea

So this is what I was thinking...why not take the ammo can idea, but put the lipos in a waterproof box and submerge in water.

I'm thinking that if the lipos go, they couldn't burn out of the ammo box and the remaining lipos in other waterproof boxes would be unaffected.

What do you think?

I know it sounds a little cumbersome, but why not lose only one lipo as opposed to all of them!

Probably just me but I don't think that most people charge in the same place as they store lipos....

If you're that worried a plastic bag full of sand on top of the lipo pack would likely stifle any fire from spreading ..fire starts...bag melts..sand covers lipo...

yeah here is one it is out of a plane that was crashed... the pack is fine btw.

I had one that swelled up and registered 160+ degrees F. I tried to charge and balance it and things went well but it just would not run right after that. It reminds me of the instructions that come with stuff nowadays - 20 pages of safety warnings and 2 pages of instruction.

Ditto....In all my years of using these things in my airplanes ,boats ,helis etc...and I have personally seen only 1 fire at the flying field and had a friend report another at his home...both were due to user error ie:charging at waaaaayyy too many amps and not paying attention to the pack while it was charging.

I've only had one incident myself and that was me trying to charge a 1300 mah pack at 5 amps accidentally .I had just finished charging a 5000 mah heli pack and put the little 1300 on without changing settings .Luckily I looked over at it just as it started to swell up and I got it disconnected and outside before it got a chance to vent.I drove a nail through that pack the next day to see if I could get it to ignite but all I got for my efforts was a ruined see through lipo.

I store my 40 some odd packs in a couple of open tupperware containers and charge my packs up the night before in my house ,usually on my hobby bench where I can keep an eye on it while working on something or on my dining room table while watching TV.

This is the best thread I have read yet regarding Lipos.
I have been holding off on them because I have scared myself by reading so many things about these " dangerous" things.

I apply common sense to many things and am known to be cautious at times.
I think I can handle lipos.
