    HSX Hydro pics and questions

I got this from a friend. It is a HSX Hydro with the following parts
    -14.8V 3200mhr lipo
    -Feigao 12S RPM 2958
    -ESC hydra 120
    -Prop X438
    -BEC
So I kno wnothing about FE 0, zip, nota, nothing at all , so we all know were I stand. So I know Mr. Watts has the smarts and so do others on here to answer a cuple questions.
-Doing the math on this set up am I maxed out on prop size. If you answer this could you show the math on how it works so I can learn.
    - is the ESC ok for this set up? same again please show the math
    - any one want to guess the speed of this thing
    - is there a class for this thing as it is set up? I'm the only boater up here so this is just in case I'm somewhere there might be a race one day
    - How do you tell what firm ware I have in the ESC 103 or 104?
    - At this point this is were I miss my 65% nitro boats
-I only have one lipo if I get more should I get a bigger mhr or is this enough for this set up.
any help would be muchly apreciated

my calculation said you will go at least 55mph with this setup IF nothing burning, its a really hot setup and you will burn the esc, if i were you, i will go for Feigao 12L 2084kv, x442 prop, btw, nice looking boat you got there

      Nice boat Rick.
Kevin knows his oats and I would listen to him about the motor. Those motors are not expensive and you can sell the old one if you want. A new Feigao motor is much cheaper than a new esc

I agree that it may be to hot of a setup. The combo that Kevin suggested is a proven setup and should work well in your hydro. Although I personally would opt for the 8xl size motor.
        * BBY Lift Master RIgger * Insane Gen 2 Cat * Aeromarine Avenger Pro Twin * Delta Force Cyber Storm * Delta Force 41" Mono * H&M Viper II * H&M Intruder * OSE Raider Hydro * Whiplash 20 * Brushless Mini Rio *

Do you know how small this hydro is? A mate of mine powers his with that or a 9xl and IMO a shorter can motor, being lighter weight is perfect for this boat. Maybe even an ammo 2300 would be a hit? Its the right size. Its just a bit small to be powered with an xl comfortably.

OK I have a Aveox 36/30/1.5 1920RPM witch is the same as a Nue 1520 or real close to both are a 4 pole motors, would that work? and what prop would work with this. For Just a laugh could I up the ESC to a200amp and run a Hackar B-50 8L at 3019 RPM for a saw pass. I I have one of them too

It looked like in the vido on there web page they toasted a ESC but it was a smaller one I thought.

The hull I believe is just over 24" long. Many people including myself run h&m viper hydro's on xl size motors as well as l's also. My personal preference is to have a larger can that has more torque to run larger props.

Old Guy have you run the boat yet? If so how does she handle with the 4s pack on the starboard side? Again siding with the popular vote I myself would swap the battery to the port side to counter prop torque. BTW the Hacker 8L would be a great motor on 3s lipo.

Thats what i mean, its only small so a XL is a bit heavy for it. You dont need the big capacity cells for a shorter can motor like you do for an XL. Its about getting the power to weight ratio right for the size of the hull(IMO). There is a reason you dont see people putting 1527 1D's on 4s2p in delta force 29's?
Like Darin says, "there is only SOOO much power you'll be able to use sucessfully... ANYTHING more will be wasted watts...".
                  Alright i'm done for now

If you have it run it. If you want to go economical the sv27 motor or the new UL-1 motor would also be good choices.

My tape said 23.5" long trust me I have been a steel fab for oner 32 years. No it has not been in the water yet, the water is still 4 ft thick (ice) The pack was put on the right side to help the turn fin and keep the weight on the in side just like putting a tank in a sponson on a nitro boat. putting the pack on the other side would that not make it want to role over with the help of the G force in a flat out turn?

I'm not doubting you measuring ability. I was just going off what I read a while back. While I can understand your reasoning for the weight on the right side to help the turn fin, a well designed turn fin will keep the sponson held to the water in a turn and floating like it wasn't there in a straight.

I have been out of RC boats for 10 years. when I made a sport 40 we used to put the tanks in the right side sponsons. this could be old school thinking. have you tride both sides in the same boat? if so what did you find ?

In all my hydro setups I run 2packs in series with equal weight distribution on each side. In reading on high power setups I do know that people run packs on the same side that the prop penetrates the water to counter torque roll. All my setups are pretty much extreme limits. I have nobody to race against on a competition level so all I do is try to top my best. Pretty much saw running all the time.
