Our club runs a variety of classes on a 200m oval course, for some time we have used one person to count and record laps.
We are looking for an alternate system that will allow us to count, time and record all this data with more ease, we also never have anymore then 6 boats on the water. My father came up with a sysytem that involved using a free software download called laps free (car racing software) and a series of buttons/switches. This would allow us to hook up the computer to a mixer, then onto a speaker wirelessly so that all of the neccessary beeps and buzzes would be able to be heard by the drivers. The switches/buttons couald be ,anned by a number of people which will allow for them to record when a certain boat crossing the line for each lap. As cars go on a basis of maximun number of laps and not lap time the software does not suit our standard countdown, so also into the mixer we have a cheap mP3 player hooked up with our countdown uploaded onto it. We can also have a Microphone plugged into the mixer if need be.
This system will work fine we think, but I would like to know if anyone is aware of a more suited timing system for the boats ?
Any help is greatly appreciated
