    Motor choice

Dealing with nitro's and FEs it is now time to get into more to scale boats...

I currently have a brushed scale Pilot boat which I bought RTR from a friend and I have ordered an Equipage Florida 80 scale wooden speedboat. The boat has a length of 31" and weighs around 6lbs. The manufacturer suggests a Speed 700/9.6V and 6 - 14 cells with a 40A ESC.

I don't feel like getting to brushed motors, and I have one 36-50 2700KV brushless watercooled motor and a 35A ESC and a couple of 11.1V lipos. I can get also a 60A or a 100A ESC if needed but I will have to immobilise one functional boat.

Do you think that I can go brushless straightaway, saving the cost to get the motor/esc have a good performance(not tug-like but not blazing-fast, just a good speed for a scale wooden speedboat) without tearing the boat apart on the first launch...

    The hull is this:

Thanks for your time to go through this... any comment welcome...

I think on 3s you will have to much rpm for a scale boat of that size and weight. For a scale boat on 3s lipo, I would personally run a 2000kv motor.

Thanks for the lightning speed answer...

I would like to use the 2700 motor that's standing on the bench, what if I use 7.4V 4000mah lipos? I also have a couple of these...

      Thanks

      Mike

You just dont have a ton of torque with the 2700. With 2s the rpm range will be much better for the scale boat. I would start with a small prop. Maybe 32mm or so.

Would a 9turn XL KB brushless that you have on sale be more close to the suggested 700 brushed?

          Thanks,

Thats really over kill for that size boat and a real amp hog. If buying a new motor I would get a Feigao 12L, but than you would need a new esc with a 60-70 amp constant rating.

best if you fiberglass that wood boat before it gets near water. equipage does not have a good track record with their wood boats.
the proboat 1500kv motor or the super vee motor(1800kv) on 14v would be my choice.

                Thanks for the answers,

Steve I will probably give a try with the existing 2700 tha I have and if not succesfull I will get either the 12L or the AQ SV one...

Rex, thanks for the tip, I will get a polyester coat in the hull before launch...
