The hull is an ML Boatworks 338 v2 with a TP 4070 2250kv on two 4s SMC HCL 4400 lipos controlled by a Castle XLX2 turning a Brent Byers wire drive with an ABC 1716-17-45 2 blade prop sharpened and balanced by me, Speed master rudder hanging on diy brackets and hinges and a home made turn fin and bracket. The diy turn fin turned out to be a problem that took a while to figure out. The boat would turn slightly to the right when it hopped out of the water when hitting waves. It tracked straight all day long once it was back down to its ride height. I reworked the turn fin using a dial indicator and mounting the fin in a vise on my mill. I ran the mill table back and forth and found a tiny twist to the right on the lower hook part of the fin. I got it nice and straight to under .010 deflection and that made a big difference. Now it seems to run nice and straight unless the guy with the transmitter goofs up 😁. I didn?t get the speed on this run but the previous topped out at 75mph according to the gps tracker onboard. I also put my watch onboard for a previous run that hit 67 and it recorded 4.18 G?s in the turns. This sport is really fun, now I have to get up the nerve to get in the water with other boats and race.
You guys on this forum have been a lot of help getting the boat to where it is. I?m sure it can be improved on. I?m learning more about the boat with each outing. I figured I?d share the quirk my boat had in case anybody else ends up scratching their head as their boat turns on its own seemingly randomly.
Here is the video
