My 2nd Zippkits JAE 33FE Setup for 8s

This is the last boat for me this build season. The timing worked out perfectly. Ice is finally out up here in northern Wisconsin, but it's still a bit chilly for running boats.

I got it out today for a maiden run. I think this is a little special. Got her in the hundo club the first time out!

I have a question for Joe Petro. Or anyone else, feel free to chime in.

With the Zippkits hardware for the JAE 33FE, the strut sets the prop behind the rudder. It's almost twice as far back as the rudder. Is this intentional?

I have built two of these now. On the first one, I used Speedmaster's strut and rudder. The prop is not set as far back as with Zippkits hardware.

I noticed right away on the maiden run with the setback prop that it does not oversteer.

Yet most people use long rudder setback brackets when running stingers to get the rudder back in line with the prop.

It's very noticeable how honest my second JAE 33FE is on the turns. I'm not dialing down the dual rate on the steering.

On both boats I shifted the plywood ride pads to the outside for a little more surface area. I thought that was causing it to hook the turns.

Then, on my first one, I sanded the outside of the ride pads flush. It still over turns. And even sanded a slight bevel. Same thing, it over turns or hooks the turns. So I turned down the steering dual rates for less rudder throw, and it turns decent.

But, on my second JAE 33FE, I'm still running it with the ride pads oversized and shifted to the outside. Basically, it's a sharp edge but it turns beautifully with no over steer...

I'm no expert on a box build Zipp with hardware but they all say build as the directions state and you'll have a great running hull!

Is this 2nd built rigger an older JAE 33 Sam as the new ones have 3 bolts holding the turn fin on and the turn fin is angles at almost 90 degrees?
