    Power for a 42" Aeromarine Challenger

    I used to fly giant scale electric aircraft, but now I have been boating, and still have a bunch of 4,5,6, and 8s, 5-8000mah batteries.
    Planning a to build a 42" Aeromarine Challenger and need some recommendations on motor, esc & battery combinations.
    This will be my large electric boat, and I am looking for "blinding" speed, just a good all around sport set-up. Not racing, just playing.

    if it has 5" rails it makes things a ton easier to buy a single or dual 40mm/56mm motor mount (anywhere from a 150A-300A speed controller depending on motor wattage...) more pictures will help a ton.

      You could run that on a longer 40mm motor (4060-4070), or a shorter 56mm motor (5650-5660). That hull length is kind of in the middle. I might lean towards two 4S packs in parallel for an 8S setup. You could go up in voltage, 10S, even 12S using your 5 or 6S packs, but weight becomes a factor running two in parallel, or more, if you're looking for longer run times. On 8S, 800-1000kV will put you in the 24K-30K loaded RPM range, definitely in the sport/cruising range for a "smallish" large v-bottom hull. I've never run a V-bottom in that size. I had several in the 36" range that ran 6S, 1650kV 40mm motor, very fast, and some in the 48-60" range on 56mm motors, 10-12S 600-800kV, much larger props, more cruising speeds.

          I'm thinking that 8s packs(or 2x4s), I have would be the best option, as they are 4400mah with 65-130c discharge.

              That's a pretty reasonable choice at 8S, under 30krpm prop speeds, wont be a rocketship but should have plenty of punch. Neu makes nice things.

              You could actually make that work as a 12S setup with one less battery (and less runtime) with a compatible ESC if you really wanted to go a bit faster for short stints.

              It sounds silly but when you add the length of the motor, the coupler and such you may be interfering with the front of the cowl. Measure twice!
