    Moving stateside.

    Hello all,

Hopefully a quick one - I'm looking into moving or at least getting a place stateside (im from Northern England) with my partner, she's originally from state college, PA and we are looking at getting a property over here in the central PA area. I will probably remain a UK citizen (my occupation is tax free in the UK) and just enter as a visitor (I work offshore 6 months of the year anyway only paid for my time onboard, coupled with few weeks in the UK)

We are just in the info gathering stage at the moment and was curious what issues / rules I might have with my boats? It's pretty much become impossible to run my larger rc boats in the UK now (lakes are overcrowded, the specified model boat lake in my area Is completely overran with wildlife and fuelled by the public feeding them constantly)

I'm aware 12s is the max cell count but other than that, how restricted is access to waters? is there any clubs in central PA I can get in touch with?

I don't mind travelling a few hours to get a good run in either.

I'd probably send a shipping container over in the next 2-3 years once we have a place, import one of my classic cars, bunch of other stuff and could stick a few boats in.

I have looked on the Namba website and found district 1 has a place to run at Boonsboro Maryland which is about 2.5 hour drive, is there anything else more centrally located I can use?

    Cheers.

Hello Liam, long time no talk, I'm quite familiar with the Pennsylvania area as I travel through it alot for work. Don't know of any places to run your large boats unfortunately. I did hear awhile back of a guy with a private pond was looking to start a club close to the State College area I do believe but that was awhile ago. Do you have race boats like p mono ,hydro, or p cat FE? There is a club for them in Corning NY close to the PA line. If I heard of anything else I'll let you know. Happy New Year my friend

      Thanks for the info,

At the moment I don’t have any ‘USA’ spec race boats, the format we race in Europe is completely different.

Something in the future I would probably look into.

So access to most body’s of water is from the land owner? Is it fairly easy to get permission to run? Over here it’s almost impossible either the water utilities provider owns the lake (don’t want anyone using it) or it’s a swimming / kayaking / fishing lake… the one lake I do have wardens permission for is 3 miles long in our Lake District so getting optimum running conditions is pretty hard.

Laim. Yes mostly private pond. I guess you could run your big boats on the lakes just not advised because of the liability of maybe running into a full sized boats. As far as running them big monster boats of yours on club ponds for fun runs . Most clubs will let you I guess. Just depends on the size of the ponds

          Hello Liam,

IMPBA and NAMBA are the two large racing organizations, but more importantly they offer insurance as part of your membership. You will want to read the fine print as there are restrictions to where and when you are covered. Both these organizations limit a model boater to 10S. IMPBA is more prevalent in PA over NAMBA, you might check here on the IMPBA District 1 website and ask if there are any lakes you can run at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/615050361900778

District 12 is just south of district 1 and has more clubs: https://impba.net/officers-districts-clubs/#District12

AMA will cover model boaters in additional to planes and helis and to my best knowledge the cell limit is quite a bit higher.

The primary rule is never to run a boat in a body of water where someone is swimming or fishing. If you can find a private lake that might be your best bet, however finding the owner is often very tricky.
