    Hydra XLX2, 8mm bullets throughout

8s I would start with a 460 size prop. Should be conservative. I run a similar motor on 10s and 457. Octura. Or 2314 abc 7-45

What kind of hydro is that? It's a beauty!

Thanks! It’s one of Mad Racing Boatworks hydros.

Is there a build thread on this boat?

I didn’t do a build thread, unfortunately. But it was the easiest hydro I’ve built and setup. There’s a ton of space inside the hull for batts and electronics and it runs super smooth. If you’re in the market for a big 8s hydro I’d recommend it!

The way to find a prop is to pick a speed you expect then type different props into the calculator. FE allows you to go a vast delta of speeds vs runtime. You can do SAW running, heat racing, bashing, endurance.

The boat should be able to run mid-70's with a decent amount of runtime (90 seconds). That ought to be around 5500w. 6717/3, 2716/2, 2617, 7016

I really don't know, though. going to take some trial and error.

looking through my old log files for my 42 cat it was pulling 6kw to do low-mid 60's. I might not have had it setup the best though IDK.

I have a handful of runs on it now. It runs nice with a 2314-17-45, an X462, and a 557/3, it pulls around 200 amps with temps on the motor @ 103f, 93f on the batts, but 146f at the 8mm bullet connectors with a 2 minute runtime. 2p would lower the connector temps but I’m happy with the result. I guess I’m getting speeds in the low to mid 50’s conservative estimate.

It runs flawlessly. Super stable, light, corners like it’s on rails. It’s a damn-near perfect big electric hydro. I like running big boats as they tend to stay upright even in rough water.
The downfall to an old design like this hydro is the clamshell design creates lift at speed so I don’t know that it would be competitive with todays gas sport hydros and definitely not gas riggers.
