    Hydro strut position

    Hi guys!

Please tell me the correct position of the strut in the outriggers.

Currently my strut and shaft line are parallel to the bottom of the boat:

But during movement the boat does not rest on the bottom, but on the sponsons and the shaft line becomes at an angle to the water:

Is this correct? Should I make the shaft line parallel to the surface of the water during movement?

The strut should be more like the green line than the red.

Please correct me if I'm wrong . But shouldn't his strut be at the same height as the bottom of his sponsons? Similar to a normal Hydroplane. Picture of my UL19 so you can see what I'm talking about . UL19 is setting on the sponsons and the bottom of the strut.

So the shaft line should be parallel to the water surface? If it is at an angle, the prop does not work as effectively?

Very good question. My strut is now above the sponsons (as recommended by the body manufacturer). If I lower it down the speed drops.

Follow what the manufacturer says. Sorry I muddied the water on this for you.

Yeah parallel to the water surface gives the most forward thrust, there are times when you have to sacrifice some of that to increase or decrease lift at the prop, but flat should normally be your starting point.

Running the strut high increases the angle of attack on the tub and increases the aero lift it produces, that can be a good or a bad thing, the Dr Super Evil has a cranked floor which is designed to be run that way.
