I have a prather 46 in deep v I would like to make electic it has a castle mamba xl has surface drive with 1/4 cable so I bought a leopard motor 56110 in 780 kv I would like to run it on 8s with a octura x462 prop the motor has 6 mm bullet connectors and the speed control has 8mm which should I change motor or control iknow nothing about electric thanks for any help limited income

Bigger bullets are always desired over smaller on electric boats IMO, as E boats can pull tremendous amounts of current which can heat the connectors up in some cases to the point of desoldering if too small. Since you say you are new to electric, just be aware that most motors use single strand copper wire that is coated in enamel. This enamel is rated for very high temps, and can be a real bear to remove requiring caustic chemicals or manual grinding in order to remove the enamel to solder.
You should be OK if you simply desolder the 6mm bullets and resolder the 8mm bullets right back to the same place, as the very tips of the wire have no enamel on them. The moral of the story here is do NOT cut the motor wires for any reason, or you will have to deal with the enamel!Last edited by Xrayted; 09-13-2024, 01:58 PM. -
You're setup is going to have a relatively low amp draw, so the 6mm bullets would work, but I typically choose to go bigger when I can to eliminate a potential bottleneck in the future. 8mm bullets usually have larger wire cups, and it's not ideal to stick a smaller gauge wire into a large pool of solder in terms of electrical resistance. If you choose to go the 8mm route, I like to fold the wire in half so that I'm shoving twice as much copper into the cup before soldering... more surface area.Vac-U-Tug Jr (13mph)Comment

Hi! I just finished an electric conversion on my old prather 46" deep vee! Went a little overboard (pun intended) with the electronics, but she runs really well. I paired a Castle Hydra XLX2 with a TP Power 5870 motor, 900kV, running on 8s 10Ah battery. I used 8 gauge wire with 8mm bullets, and I recommend that you do the same. For connectors I'm using QS8 anti-sparks. The hull gets squirrely above 45mph or so, so trim hardware is a must. I re-used the running gear, so it's still a subsurface drive. Using a Prather S260 prop that I balanced and sharpened myself. Here's a few pics

Yeah, I've been told that before and understand why, but for this particular setup it isn't necessary. The motor just isn't working that hard, probably doesn't break 110 degrees. And I like the clean look of the relatively straight cooling lines. It's solid advice though and I do appreciate it!Prather 46" Deep Vee (electric conversion)
