    ESC for TP4060

    Hi guys!

Yesterday I burned Swordfish 240A at SAW run and I'm looking for a new ESC for TP4060 1750kv on 8s.
I'll be glad to hear your advice. Here are some options:

Flier 300A - cheap but is it reliable?
ZTV 300A G2 - big, heavy. Is it reliable?
Castle Hydra X8s - will it handle 250A+?
Castle Hydra XLX2 - expensive and reliable

The Castle X8 will go into the 300A range If you don't want to buy another ESC get the Castle XLX2 and never look back. It will run much cooler at 300A over the X8.

Yes, I really like Castle Hydra XLX2, but Flier is almost three times cheaper.
I heard that Flier's characteristics are overstated. Will this ESC withstand real 300A?

If you want I can send you a couple Flyers and even a 300 Sordy for you burn box as a reminder of how you should have just spent the money up front. I could have 4 more Castles for what I have spent filling my burn box.

Since we know nothing about your hull, prop, or batteries, it's hard to say. The Castle X8S is a reliable unit up to 300A, the XLX2 will definitely handle the task if you have the room and likely be the last ESC you buy. The data logging in the Castles alone justifies the price difference.

No need for a photo, I trust you

For information the support service advised 320A 12s model to be better for my task, but I still don't trust it.

              This is a Hydro 2 outrigger, ABC 1817/1917, 2*4000 CNHL G+ 4s.
This body is really doesn't have much space + the CG has already shifted too much towards the nose.
But still I'll probably choose the XLX2 since my TP4060 is custom rewinded for 1790kv and the current consumption is higher than the stock 1750kv.

X8s is more suitable in size but may not be able to handle the current.

The Castle X8s is really one of the best ESC's for it's size, but I'm not an expert when it comes to calculating what would be just enough. I typically build as much headroom as I can into my high current setups and rarely have a space crunch like you do in your hydro. I PM'd RaceMechanix to chime in on this thread. He's put more miles on the castle ESC's in race conditions than anyone I know and would likely have an opinion on your setup worth listening to.

                  Thank you.

Anoter reason for X8s is weight: 155g vs 362g XLX2.

But considering how quickly my Swordfish 240A burned out without even reaching 70% throttle I assume that the acceleration current is 300A+ and X8s simply won’t work for long.

Yeah but it was a Swordfish! I've seen them burn up in 50M on mild setups.

The XLX2 is f-in sick. If you can afford the weight and space, you won't be let down. 500+ amps and still running.

Also: I purchased both my XLX2's from amazon, one was 240 one was 280. They were going on sale for a while. However it has been a few months since I've seen a good deal.

The X8S should be enough for a 4060 if you can live with 300A or less. If you need more, than the XLX2 is your best bet.
