    Tenshock motors

So I put a tenshock 2260 900 kv motor into my 1/8 scale. Wanted to test it this morning. Boat went about 50M and stopped. Due to the front endbell being screwed on, the motor case turned and pulled a plug out. No damage but annoying. My setup has the motor mounted to plate in the tub. I will have to put a clamp on the other end to stop it turning, or change the mount. Not what I wanted to do, but no biggy. Has anyone else had this problem?

In my modifying of Tenshock motors I have handled maybe 100+ of them in various sizes. When I first stared doing them, I had this problem happen to customers motors that I have sent out. It is part of my modifying process now to remove the front (pto end) end and apply some Loctite to the threads and retighten. Not all of them are this loose, but some are barely finger tight.

On ANY tenshock motor I suggest that you put a couple of bolts in the mounting holes and screw the front end most of the way off, apply some loctite type product, then re tighten.

This DOES NOT apply to the OSE tenshock because it doesn't have a front (pto end) end bell nor does it have mounting holes.

I've loctited it and made a clamp to remedy the solution. Why do they not come from the factory loctited? It is the first tenshock motor I have owned, so I had no idea. I have just bought another one while they are on special though for a Q hydro, lol.

Well I got to test the new motor out on Saturday. It is in my U7 Notre Dame. I have been running a TP4070 830 kv on 10s (we run 10s in NZ) on a M cut 447/3. GPS was 99kph max previously.

The tenshock motor is lighter and that made a difference and strut adjustment was needed to settle the boat down. After playing around with several props I ended up on an X447 with the boat running stable and 105 kph. Nothing running hot and coming back in at 35% after 6 hot laps on flat water. So an overall speed improvement and slightly lighter boat. Happy chappy!

Oh and I also knocked over half a second off the NZ S hydro 2 lap record with my 8255 (10% smaller than 1/8) boat. I have an infused carbon version coming out of the the same mould for a new 6s boat. That will be getting a 1350kv version of the Tenshock motor.
