    Active hydrofoils

Has anyone followed this project yet?

Interesting concept, I know a few people have tried with hydro wings over the years and gyro's there was also a gent on one forum at one point that had got quite far with it but haven't seen much since?

Hydrofoils are cavitation limited. If you go to supercavitating foils the drag is similar to planing surfaces. Hydrofoils work best up to around 50 mph. They also have advantages in moderate waves, especially for ride comfort. Electric water record speeds are now around 140 mph. We ran around 100 mph in 2008. Standard hydroplanes are the lowest drag at these speeds. Wing lift in air has a lot lower drag than hydrofoil drag in water.

Sorry, I didn't watch the video before the last post. I still feel air lift will work better than water lift at high speeds. After all, high speed "boats" have gone over 300 mph. The same modern controls will work in air. The old ekranoplans were dynamically stable without modern electronics. See https://simpleflying.com/remarkable-ekranoplans-list/
