will both give the same top speed?

Who knows, neither exist 55c is the pinnacle of current technology. Both have BS on their labels.
If I were to guess without any knowledge of the brand or brands involved, I would say the heavier one is more likely to give you the higher top speed.Paul Upton-Taylor, Greased Weasel Racing. -
Look at this chart.
There are only 4 battery makers that can give you a true 50C for 2 minutes.

The above battery test chart is very outdated, as many of the top performance packs there (Panther) fell off in both quality and ability some years ago, and are no longer at the top of the charts per the guy doing all the testing. I know personally because I also used them exclusively in my Speed heli models, and they are nowhere even close in performance to what they used to be.
Here is where that testing data is coming from, and he keeps the first page updated at all times with current testing. SMC has been the king for some time now, and they are are also one of the lowest cost brands and based in the US so you can actually talk to the owner.

Those are some bargain basement packs, if you want them Aliexpress, amazon, or ebay are where to get them. If you want better performance while still being fairly cheap CNHL 5000mAh with the white shrink and 70c on the label will give you more power.Paul Upton-Taylor, Greased Weasel Racing.Comment

Where are the new 250A tests?
I still use the WHITE CNHL G+ 70C 5000mAh packs They are the same as the ones in the 250A tests.
I am still getting 13 minute run time on one year old 4S 5000mAh packs on my 100W ISDT discharger.

He is still in the process of finishing the 2024 testing, but he says he has stopped doing some of the higher amp load testing that he did many years ago. If a pack comes in 5th at 175A compared to others, then logic dictates it won't magically be "better" at 250A, so there are diminishing returns on the data, and it accomplished nothing but completely destroying the the pack, rendering it useless without providing much if any additional info. He pays for these test packs himself for the most part, and then sells them at a deep discount after the testing to recover some of the funds
It was the Panthers I was primarily talking about, as they were once the kings but have fallen off a lot in quality and performance now compared to others. SMC is still always at the top of the pack, and and has been for the last 2-3 years and is all I have been using since 2021. I do hear good things with some of the CHNL packs, and the black series is in the top 10 of the 175A testingLast edited by Xrayted; 05-01-2024, 08:38 AM.Comment

I second that about the SMC packs.. For speedruns and serious performance, SMC SRD packs are about the best you can get and all I run for serious performance. The SRD packs have the least voltage sag, and the lowest resistance of any packs i have seen. My 6200mah 6s SRD packs consistently come in at 0.8 Milliohms resistance per cell, as measured by a Junsi 4010 duo charger. A good quality lipo like my CNHL's might measure at say 1.2 to 1.5 by comparison. The SMC packs also have the least voltage sag on the XLX2 data logs after speedruns. Another great battery option is the Onyx systems packs by James Mccoy, these are also on the same level as the SMC packs. The SMC and Onyx packs have been the top choice for RC car speedrun guys for the past 3 or 4 years. Links:

And who says the SMC packs cant? You do realize the guy testing them in the chart you posted runs them for more than 90 seconds at load when testing, assuming they dont hit the over temp fail mark he has established quicker than that, or if the voltage can no longer be sustained above 3.5 per cell under load. Then only those that survive that testing will move on to the next higher load level until they eventually hit the breaking point and cannot continue.
90 seconds at a continuous 150-175A is enough to kill the majority of lipos on the market today, especially failing the 3.5V per cell threshold that many of the lower quality cells will fall to very quickly under high amp load. The ones that fail the soonest in these test tend to be the so called "premium brands" that cost 3 times what the SMC packs do. The pricing on the RCGRoups battery testing thread shows very clearly that some of the most expensive packs are actually garbage that does no better than the 10-20C $50 Amazon packs under the same load testing.
The fact that SMC has been #1 in all the testing is for the very reason you are talking about. Because they can handle the continuous load better than most if not all brands, with the least amount of voltage sag, which in turn causes them to heat less. Ive got 2-3 minute runs in my Castle Logs where my average was just under 300A, but peaks over 400. I average 175 amps for the entire run using my least aggressive prop for 60 MPH heat racing, so even that is a beatdown that most lipos cant handle, or if they do, not for many cycles before failing
The icing on the cake is they are US based for those of us in the US, and the prices are very good. Their budget line $50 lipos outperform brands that sell for more than 3 X as muchLast edited by Xrayted; 05-07-2024, 07:33 AM.Comment

No, they are not even close to SMC packs. The RCG testing guy doesnt even bother testing them any longer, and you can look at the test list yourself. It is divided up by cost, performance and weight as we all have different needs.
