Hi All
I picked up an International Hobbies AMPS outdrive with a boat. Apart from looking rough on the outside, nothing a repaint won't fix, it is in good condition internally. The bevel gears look like brand new. I have to replace the bearings on the vertical shaft as they were shot, no biggy.
What I was wondering is if anyone has a manual for these outdrives, especially regarding lubrication required. It seems like both the top and bottom should take oil, but there are no gaskets between surfaces to seal the parts. Do they use a hypoid oil or do you just grease them?
Any info would be appreciated as I am going to install it in the boat that it came with and use it as a fun boat. It will run a fully submerged prop, probably something like a X450/3, maybe smaller even, and a 440 kv motor on 10s for low current draw and longer run time.
