Thought Id show my 38" Oxidean Animal Cat, with my own upgrades.. I got this boat used but in great shape about six months ago, and only ran it a few times. It came with 4082 1650kv motors and 200amp hobbywing escs and ran well, but I thought Id revise it and swap out electronics, as I usually end up doing to any RC car or boat I get my hands on.
I switched the stock motors and esc's to castle MMX8s esc's and SSS 4092 2140kv motors. I had these two particular Castle esc's in my speedrun cars, they take 8s and are nice and small, and run hard but stay cool. I converted both to boat use easily by removing the fans and heatsink fins, and using Stumpfab's cooling plate and 3d printed cover kit, which I recommend. The new electronics went in with no issues, and the escs fit the stock locations perfectly. I'm also running upgraded HD shafts, Chris's Zonda props, and SMC 5300 SRD V3 6s packs. I've only ran it one time on a quick test run in my local pond since the rebuild, with good results. The screenshots of the Castle logs are below for those that are interested, the left esc is the first picture, the right esc is the second. It ran 89mph with less than 2 seconds of full throttle. I'm happy with the amp draw but the ripple is too high, I need to get cap packs on the escs to keep that in check..
I'm running at a small pond now that really limits how long I can stay on the throttle, but I can see from these logs that if I could hold another 1.5 sec of full throttle the boat should be somewhere north of 115mph on around a 7 second total pass. I recently met a few guys who clued me in to a bigger reservoir that they run at, I have plans to meet them there next weekend and finally get some good speedruns in with this and a couple other boats.. I'm exited about seeing the results of my work, speedrunning is nerve racking and not easy but worth it when you get the number you want.. I'll post up video here when done
