    Floor/thru-hull water pickup placement.

    53? DF Annihilator?

Where do I place the water pickup? If I could I?d stick it in the ride pad, but the stuffing tube is directly over the ride pad.

Where?s an efficient spot to put it?

    Shawn

PS where is that stuffing tube exiting out the transom?

5/32 above the keel per the stinger setup instructions. What’s your thought on that?

      Thanks Shawn.

You should be good there. In the other pic it appears to be tight on the bottom. One should aim for 1/3rd of the prop in the water when running on plane or at speed. If the prop is set to be farther in the water than that it will end pushing the boat out of the water and running on that 1/3rd of the diameter. Man I fought with my DF35 till I figured that out.
I would think a 55-57mm prop to start on that hull. And very likely bigger once all is good. But always start conservative on a new setup.

Just thought I’d leave ya this, this was my 45” old Dumas hull running a 56x112 Proteus motor. I think it was 650kv on 12s and a 55mm prop

I’ve got 500amp’s continuous to play with so hopefully that’s enough headroom to use these 66mm+ props. The prop in the pic is a 2616 and it looks small for this boat. I’ll start with 2315 and move up from there.

It doesn’t matter how small it ‘looks’ just how well it works, Have you seen how small the full-size offshore props are For hull size. Haha but they get it done. I’m not saying it doesn’t need a big prop as it can be more efficient at lower rpm’s.

The 58mm prop should be a good start. You may wanna raise the the stinger. It’ll depend on the weight of the boat as well and how well it stays planted. My 35 would rock from side to side due to too much hull out of the water. And where I put batteries did not change it. Once I raised the stinger stuffing tube a tad it was great.

RPM’s on this setup unloaded is 30,192, loaded is roughly 25,600 @ 15% slip. I have practically 0 experience with monos and never a mono hull of this size. I sure hope I don’t have to move the stinger up; my stuffing tube is firmly cemented in place at this juncture. Time will tell… I hope to have this boat done by the end of the week and wet by next week.

I’ll post finished pics for critique before the maiden.

Well you are moving along with this build. Kudos to you. Tube will come out if it needs to. There is always a way. But get it in the water first and see where you are at.

I read where someone commented this was going to be a heavy boat in your other thread. I think opposite for its size. DF hulls are traditionally very light. Even with inlay it’s not gonna be like a 70’s gas boat. I look forward to seeing it run. Gotta love a big mono. I have a an AC 50” here as well as a 47” DF yet to build

I had planned for 20,000mah initially which would have made the boat fairly heavy. I’ll stick to 10k and 12k for now.

I ordered a Lazer last year, but after 6 months of waiting I cancelled my order because I was tired of waiting haha. Wayne needs to hire a few people to help fill orders imo.

Shawn if you’d like to share any other pointers for this hull I’m all ears/eyes. Tab placement, rudder placement, etc. I am mono-illiterate so any help is appreciated.

                        As for the water pickup.
Looking from the rear - put on the right side of the hull.
With the torque of the motor, and the resistance of the prop,
The boat will want to roll more to the right side, therefore keeping the pickup in the water more.

For roundy round , for sure on the starboard side as the water pickup will most likely will be sucking air though out the duration of the corner, the time of the highest amp draw !!

sucking air if water intake on the port side in the corners.

Hey buddy, busy work week for me. Geez, too bad about the Lazer, i do not have a spare anymore. I was lucky enough to help Andy when he was prepping the business to sell to Wayne so ended up with a few blemished hulls of all varieties. I have two Magnums, a Razer, and an Edge hydro yet to build.
And yes he did build one heck of a hull. It is really good to see that Wayne is keeping that up. I had to get a hatch for a Lightning Cat made by him and it is excellent. I would do the wait for the Lazer, they are stellar in rough water.

I prefer an offset rudder to keep it out of prop wash. Turn fins just inside of the transom mounted so they are vertical with the water in a turn. Tabs usually mounted just far enough apart to keep clean water to the prop and mounted just above the transom edge(1/16”)
