Two (2) 7.4v lipo Vs one (1)14.8v lipo

Hello all,

I have just received my BJ26 brushless after several months of shopping and have decided after reading many forums not to mess around and pick up lipos to start. I have no plans of running anything other than the stock motor, esc, etc for a bit as I am new to boating (but not 4x4s and planes) and am wondering is there any advantage to purchasing one 14.8v lipo Vs 2 7.4v lipos? I understand that weight is not necessarily a good thing to lose as the cog and prop will be something to play with but would truly appreciate any guidance anyone may offer. Thank you for any input you may offer.

Smart going with lipos. I would use 2 -7.4. One reason is for balance in the hull but the biggest reason is you really do not want to add a harness since the ESC is set up for 2 inputs....just adds more resistance. I would also encourage you to get the program card for the ESC.

Also, down the road you may want to run a 2S or put them in paralell for some long run time in a smaller hotter boat and then you have that option. Also, chargers for 2S are easy to find but I would say find one with dual charging ports so you can do both cells at one time.

Go with 25C cells because there is more power available with these and at least 4000 mah. You can find some nice 4900 cells with 25 C at good prices.

Agreed. Two 7.4 packs is best choice. Recommend 25C minimum and 4000 or higher mah.

Don't forget to get yourself a Lipo balancer.

Perfect! that is exactly what I've been looking into. I almost fell for some cheaper 15c 4500Mah cells until I realised their constant output was 10c Vs the 25+ that I'm looking for. I must admit I'm not sure what that measures outside of power but I get the jist of my wanting 25+ if I'm not to get bored easily.

One other question....I've read plenty of threads about removing the batt trays to lower the cog. Would you agree with the premise of that idea? I've only been in this forum for a short time but I must thank you for the prompt responses and guidance.

You can find some nice 4900 cells with 25 C at good prices.

These would be my first choice. You can go with hobbycity Rinos but I do think you will find better performance from Elite brand and someone you can call.
