ESC Cap bank: is it always necessary?

Hello, fellow boaters. I have a small mono (26 inch) that runs a 3660 motor, 3S and a flycolor 90A. No problems so far.

    Right now I am finishing a 4S rigger, with a 3674 motor and a flycolor 150A.

Should I install a cap bank on this ESC?
From what voltage/amperage is a cap bank recommended.

For anyone not familiar with this ESC, they are the same as the raider line sold here at OSE. They already have 4 capacitors on board.

    Thanks for your help!

What motor KV and prop? What battery capacity and C rating? Auxiliary cap banks are used when the motor draws more than the batteries can supply for a short time, as when hitting WOT suddenly or when the battery/ESC wires are excessively long. Battery quality, wire and connector size, prop size and type of running all matter. There is no minimum “recommendation” as to when to use them, most folks probably don’t need them but they provide some added insurance.

I plan to start small, with a 2200kv motor and a x40, then slowly progress to the max I know this rigger can handle in race trim (no SAW runs) which is a 2600kv and a x45 with some cup. Batt is a 5000mAh 50C

Flycolor 150 and Raider are the same controller. Add OSE cap bank for peace of mind
