    soldering

In your opinion what's the best solder to use (esc, battery)?
Been advised on here to wrap battery, esc wire with smaller wire and tin, large enough to fill pocket of EC5's instead of just filling "pocket" with solders to make contact (hope you understand what i'm trying to say)
Holy crap, gas prices went up $.30 a gallon over night here in Michigan where I live.

Over the years, I've tried different brands. The BEST I've come across, and have been using for several years, is Lester. Whether you get 60/40, or 63/37, that's up to you.

I really like HobbyKng silver solder.

Yes it's good to wrap the wires with copper to fill the gap instead of solder. If you are able to have a lathe like I do, I can make them out of copper stock.

That Hobbyking Silver Solder is 35% lead, very low temperature solder
This is why you hear about plugs de-soldering under use.

Does anyone have a suggestion for high current Kester solder? talking 17kw motors on 14s? Did take a quick look but the possibilities are endless...

Have a pretty powerful weller iron...

              Liam,

I am using a Kester 60/40 rosin core solder for all my connections. The key is a small solder gap and tight fit of the wires into the socket. If the base copper wire is too loose within the socket use some solid core copper wire to wrap around the base copper wire and build it up till it just slides into the socket. This works for magnet wire coming out of motors and for fine multi-strand power wire.

                Hi Tyler,

my motors are done, the Wye star was pretty tight and then using 6mm Lehner's all around,

Motor cables will be 8Awg wire which from my memory fits fairly tight in the LMT 6mm's i know you told me about a brand a while back? Nesser maybe but thinking to just get the castle 8Awg as sold on OSE...

                One of these?

Yes that is the correct solder. The wire company is Nessel. https://nessel-elektronik.net/

And that's because of the high Tin content. Lead has a higher melting point than tin. Look at this page and study the different alloys and melting points.
I like to use the HiTemp stuff that is 96% lead because it has the highest melting point of the soft solders. But it is a pane to use and doesn't flow well. Parts have to be "tinned" with regular 60-40 before you can get a decent bond.
After switching to this stuff, I have not desoldered a connection. Probably because the solder melts at a temp above which that the wire insulation vaporizes!

And another way of making the motor leads larger is to double over the end of the wire. Adjust the width of the "hook" so that it touches both sides of the connector hole, then solder.

It's some good stuff, but there is a learning curve involved to get a good bond. And you HAVE to use a little butane torch. I bought two Irons and of the four I tried, none of them would melt that stuff.
I know you think that yours will do it , but remember, I told you so!!!
