Bocca Bearing Replacement tip (only for the Brave)

I was viewing the Bocca Bearing website and came across the following tip for replacing bearings.
Has anyone dared to try this method? If it works it sounds like it would make replacing the bearings real easy.

Place your engine housing in an oven at 325°-350° for 5 to 10 minutes. When you remove it from the oven your old bearings should fall right out, if not heat the engine a little longer. For some excellent step by step instructions on rebuilding your engine please see: NitroMonkey.com. We also suggest you place your replacement bearings inside a ziploc bag and keep them in the freezer overnight. Then slip the bearings into the engine while it is still slightly warm and when the temperature equalizes the bearings will have a press fit.

I think thats for nitro engines, you don't want to heat up the magnets in your brushless motor to 300 degrees.

That is for nitro engines, i would not even do that with a nitro engine because your heating up the engine and the bearings. There would be a expansion in both metals unless different kinds of metal. If i were to do that i would use like an ajustable heat gun and ice to cool the bearing and heat the motor.

Mike, the nitro guys do that regularly and it works well. The aluminum crankcase expands more quickly than steel bearings do, that is why the method works so well. Pounding on the light aluminum crankcase to get a bearing in or out is a good way to crack or bend the case.

Not suggested or needed for FE motors....

I forget that not everyone uses electric motors.

The method sounds a lot saner when a nitro engine is involved.

          Glad I didn’t try it.

          Thanks
