    Proboat UL-19

    Need help ! Proboat UL-19
Having issues with TP 3630 and ZTW 160amp ESC.
    ABC 17-16-45
Motor burned up all the wires on motor then shorted out ESC on first run.

Too much prop, not enough motor. What help do you need?

Get a bigger motor, stock will already burn up after 3 minutes.
You can either get a longer can 3674 type or go larger in diameter and longer. Keep the kV close to original, though.
If the ESC is fried, you will need a new one as well.

Can prop being too small cause motor to run so hot never even buried the throttle.

I think you missed what JK said. The prop was to big for your set up.

I got that , I am just asking if to small a prop would cause motor to melt down.

No, motor would see less resistance and draw less power.
You would get less speed as less power is translated into forward motion.

Any idea if a TP power 3630 2220 kv can handle the 6s. I understand that a large prop like the stock one will cause it to over heat but an ABC 17-16 is what is recommended and many other people are running this same prop with great results. I have my rudder C/L height level with sponsons, drive cable well lubed , and independent cooling for esc and motor. The motor leads melted not just the insulation but the wire inside.

I connected a different motor to ESC and it powered up so that was salvaged. Just need to figure out what happened and which motor to replace it with. I was thinking to go with a leopard but something a little larger and longer in the 2000 kv range.

You might want to re-read what I typed. It's pretty much what you just repeated,
Your stock 3630 has a 30mm (~1 1/8") can, that is the '30' in the number. Get the longer 74mm can (3674) with a longer cooling jacket and you are golden.
2000kV sounds about right, 1700 is in stock.
If you stay with a 36mm diameter, you won't have to modify your motor mount as all holes line up.

                    TP power 3630 are actually 36 mm x 60mm. I ordered a leopard 4074 2000kv. Stock dynamite was 36x58 mm 2000kv.

I purchased the TP power motor thinking that was my solution to overheating stock electronics, but I have been told by Steve Vaccaro (OSE) that it is a drag racing motor and can only be ran 3 to 5 secs. So I?m assuming that is where I went wrong. Thank you for your input. I am a little frustrated but your knowledge helps me understand how to solve my issue eventually. Thanks again JKFlow!

2200kv is too high for 6S and the boat you're using it in. Would have been a good 4S motor.

                          Fweasel is a leopard 4074 2000kv a good motor to use on 6s ?

It's better than the other one, but still near the limit. An ABC 1716 prop is pretty aggressive and you'll need to watch your temps with it, and time your runs. You've got no extra headroom with the stock 120A ESC still in place.

ESC is upgraded to a ZTW 160 amp. Runs cold even when motor was on fire!
