Reversed thread collets on a cat?

My questions is for catamarans with dual motor, ESC, prop, etc. - does one collet have to be with reveres thread, since one motor will spin in an opposite direction? I ran my Zelos for the first time today after upgrading all internals and had one of the flex shafts come lose from its collet. While this could've been my mistake not tightening it enough, upon inspecting both collets I noticed they were exactly the same. Hence my question. Thanks.

yup, should have left hand and a right hand collet. Depends if your running your motors inward's or outwards.
I run mine inwords (starboard side runs ccw, port site cw) meaning starboard side (right side) has the normal right handed type thread. Port side (left side) has a left handed thread.
If your running yours outwards then it would be just the opposite.

Wow?. Well these collets were the stock ones in the Zelos. I just transferred them onto the new motors. I am surprised the Zelos was sold like this.

I have never used reverse collets and have not known any body that dose.
I would think that if they were a big thing that should be used.
OSE would have them in their store.

I agree with TRUCKPULL. I only have one twin powered cat,but both motors
are using the same thread even though they are spinning opposite direction. Boat has been together for 3 or 4 years now and I have never had a problem with the flex coming loose.

Don't need em. 5mph, or 105mph, doesn't matter. Just use a quality collet, clean off the grease from the tip of the flex cable before installing and tighten it properly.
