Im new to the forum and have a question. Is it possible to power a tunnel hull or cat by not using an electric outboard and using an inboard motor strut setup

There’s nothing stopping you from running a strut and rudder setup on a tunnel hull. It would be the same as a single motor setup on a cat. Only issue I could see is would there be enough room on the transom if you wanted to have an offset rudder. To combat this you could use a combined ‘strudder’ strut and rudder assembly.

Also Tenshock and TFL make F1 tunnel hulls that use similar to a stern drive type setup to allow the motor to stay inside the hull.

Just to give an example if you wanted to run an F1 and give the impression of having an outboard then you could mount an inline rudder (not ideal for outright speed) to the transom and disguise the rudder assembly with a dummy outboard cowling. The following gives an idea of how much room is available on the transom on a tunnel boat.

I have two on my scratch build X Cat. These use inboard motors, but a realistic outboard “out drive”.
