RSX 380 from 8s to 6s.. what kv?

    RSX 380 from 8s to 6s.. what kv?

    Not a racer, but I want to conform to the rules as if I were going to race.

    Current setup:
    RSX 380 (38? Rigger)
    8s, 6000 maH, 100c
    TP 4070 1070kv Y wind
    SF 240
    3/16? strut
    ABC 2116*17

    It runs great with the above setup. Not too wet or loose.

    I?d like to switch to 6s, though. How does this look:
    6s, 6000maH or 6s2p 12,000maH 100c
    TP 4070 1520kv Y wind (too much?)
    SF 240
    3/16? strut
    ABC 2016*17, 2116*17

    Is the 1520kv a little much for this setup?

      6s is max for NAMBA in Q rigger.

        Ok, I’ll back out of this thread. I have 0 experience with riggers.

          I would go with the 6D or 7D over the 3Y. 1200-1400kv is a good sweet spot for Q hydro.
          If you run 1500kv you will likely need to reduce the prop diameter.
          With 2P 12,000mAh that's going to be a heavy boat so I would go with the lower kv.

            Your 6s setup seems reasonable to get you started. Ofcourse start small on the prop and work your way up. The only hiccup in your setup is battery capacity. NAMBA has a 10,000mAh limit on the Q class.

              I thought about that after I posted. I’ve got 5000maH 6s packs for 10k.

                I’ve always preferred Wye to D winds but I couldn’t say why. I’ll stay within Q rigger limits of 10k maH to shave off a little weight.

                Are there disadvantages of D to Wye? I know this has been discussed at length on the forums over the past 15 years, but I don’t recall reading any proven data on the matter.

                  Wye winds have a neutral connection which is a weak point in the hotter motors. Delta's tend to be more efficient at higher speeds. Wye's are easier on the ESC though which is a plus.

                    I pulled the trigger on the 1520 kv. I’ll start with 1817*17 and work my way up from there.
