    Lipo storage

Hey guys Im sure someone has asked this but I couldnt find it. I have 2 Neu 2S packs that I havent used in like 2 months. They are fully charged and I cant run my boats due to frozen pond. I have the Hyperion Ac/Dc EOS0606i charger and I dont think it has a discharge. I know Im not suppose to leave these sitting at full charge. What can I do? Thanks for any help and Have a good holiday. Will

That one has a discharger. You can set it to drain your packs to 1/2 charge.

If you can hook them up in series, you will get about 15 volts. Hook up 12 volt light bulb to them and discharge down to 3.7 volts per cell unloaded. You will have to monitor each cell's voltage to make sure it does not get close to 3V. If you know the bulb's wattage and your battery capacity, you can calculate how long to keep the bulb connected to reach 50% state of charge. Then tape up the connectors on your batteries and put them in the refrigerator till spring. You should never keep lipos charged to 100% when put away. Even after the day of running your boat, recharge them to 50% SOC or with storage charge mode. Charge them right before use.

I did the above using the 2s batteries alone (7.4 V) with the 12V bulb. The bulb was 50W which means 50/7.4 = 6.7 amps. The battery was 4900 mah = 4.9ah, we need half capacity, therefore 2.45 ah. The bulb draws 6.7 amps, therefore use the bulb for 2.45 / 6.7 = 0.36 hours, i.e. abt 30 mins.
I am not very sure for the above but with my electricity knowledge this is my guess. If it is wrong please correct me.
I used it in four batteries (11.1 & 7.4 V) but unfortunately I forgot the bulb in one of them and guess what....Lipo damage! It is not a very safe practice.

I've read this in threads countless times with no explanation of why. Is it a safety concern or do the cells deteriorate in some way? I left a couple of packs fully charged for about a month last summer. Afterwards they did not perform as well and seemed to have developed more internal resistance (according to my charger). However, after a few more cycles they seemed to perform better again and the internal resistance had dropped somewhat as well.
