    Ideal setup for TFL Cheetah

Hello all. Recently purchased this beauty that was never put to water due to hull damage in the gelcoat from its stand. She was repaired at a local boat shop. She was put together by Sandy at TFL. The escs, gps and receiver are mounted forward with the batteries aft. Please critique and offer input. Havent put her to water yet, she is getting a new wrap. The ESC are seaking 180a the motors are SSS 4082 2000kv (owner said 4092 but measuring the can seems to be 4082) Appreciate any advise on layout help.

looks great. just be carefull with the power you have inside the hull as the Cheetah cat hulls only have a desicated top speed before blowing over. we have some of these hulls in our club and fitted with a single motor around 2200 to 2400 kv,s on 4s., there certainly quick enough .

Are those twin SSS 4082 2000 kv too much for it, or can she handle more? I planned on getting some 6s once I get used to it and dialed in on 4s.

the 2000 kv motors are fine for 4s but not really suitable for 6s . normally a maximum kv of 1600 is safe for running a 6s setup in oval trim. just see how she perfoms on 4s for now as i am sure you will be quite happy with results. try 447 props and check temps after short runs.

What are your speed goals for this hull? I ask because as stared above, the Cheetah is speed-limited due to its design. It is a great oval racer, but cannot reliably achieve the straightaway speeds that the narrower, more scale-like hulls can. Doesn’t mean it isn’t fun, it is, but putting excessive power into the hull just adds cost, not speed.

I was hoping 70s if at all possible on 4s per side stable. The guy I bought it from said it is a 6s setup according to Sandy from TFL but not sure if those 4082 2000 kv motors are adequate?

Those motors are more than large enough for 4 or 6S, the Cheetah is not a large hull. Reaching 70 mph is possible on smooth water but you may need an air dam and a forward CG.

You will need props with at least 3” of pitch to approach 70 mph on 4S, a bit over 2” pitch on 6S. The Kv is pretty high for 6S, you’ll be around 40,000 rpm on the water and it will be easy to overheat if you over-prop a bit too much. Are you looking for zip-zip passes at high speed, or longer run times and general sport boating?

I wish I knew more about the CNC props on it. All I know is they are 40 props. Zip Zip passes would be nice but I dont think this is the hull for it? Im looking to start a club in my area and maybe get enough interest from the local community, marines and navy to get some official racing down here in Jacksonville, NC.

If you want to oval race the Cheetah, then 70 mph isn?t very realistic. In rough race water it will blow over, but so will most similar-sized hulls. Not knowing much about the props it is difficult to estimate speeds on 4S, assuming they are 1440s then the pitch is 2.2?. This would give speeds around 50, a bit low but for a new club with guys running RTR cats it may be a good place to start. If you are substantially faster than the other new guys they may become discouraged. Just a thought from a guy who helped start up several clubs...
