The boat in the photo is not a canard. A canard - as we speak of it in model boating - runs on the two rear sponsons and one sponson at the bow. That boat is just a narrow mono with outriggers, similar to the smaller "bat boats". Don't expect much except 'scale' looks.

Well, unfortunatley this boat is no more Not sure if the news has made it to the northern hemisphere, but the boat had the front torn off a couple of days ago in a stoush with Japanese whalers. It has sunk while being towed to an island (they said straight after the incident that it wouldn't be salvagable).
I'm not going to get into the whole whaling debate, but it is a shame that this awesome craft is no more.

I believe that hull is actualy a trimaran. But it doesnt matter anyway. I dont want to get into the whale hunting thing either but this episode clearly demonstrates that when you play with fire expect to get burned at some point.
Bob Barker from The Price is Right - just recently shelled out $5 Million so that organization could buy it!
I wonder if he had insurance!!!!!!!!!
Bob Barker's contribution went towards another (much larger) boat - called the Bob Barker. It was in the area at the time of the collision. Ady Gil contributed the money to buy Earthrace (hence renamed Ady Gil).
Fox news just showed video of the impact to the trimaran shot from the deck of the Japanese vessel. They definately were intent on ramming them. And the funniest part of the narration of the TV commentator is the earthfirst crew stated they consider Friday Harbor home. We got these characters calling Washington home? Sweet mother of gawd. Who breeds these,..........these...
It was a scary crash. I'm not going to get into the whaling debate, but will get into the crash debate. The larger craft has the right of way. The small craft is far more maneuverable. The sad part is after the crash one of the deckhands on the whaling ship still tries to hose down the guys on the small craft. Luckily no one died.
