I have roasted a speed control and motor due to my boat submarining and getting stuck in the mud at the bottom! When a brushless speed control (Castle and Great Planes) loses signal from a Futaba FASST receiver it will maintain last known throttle position. My question is:Will a fail safe work in this situation?

Failsafes work when the receiver loses radio signal, and since 2.4 gig radio waves don't penetrate water well they would work well in the application described. One has to be more careful with 75 mHz radios since their signal penetrates water well. (I used to drive R/C submarines in depths up to 10 feet underwater just fine with a 75 mHz radio.) If the boat dives under and you don't let off the trigger you can drive it deep into the mud and lose the boat. Several years ago at a SAW trial a racer lost his boat when it dove in at over 70 mph. Two days later it bobbed to the surface with muddy sponson tips and about an ounce of water inside. Good tape job!

lomdel, The faisafe function on my radio only needs to be reset after the receiver is switched off.Comment

On the 3PM if you use all digital servos you can set the radio to HRS mode. In that mode you can set the failsafe using a menu which is set and forget.
In PPM mode you have to set it every time the power is cycled on the TX.
Unfortunately HRS mode does not work with Schulze controllers. Castle works fine.Don't get me startedComment

Because of my personality...... All the information posted here is listed in the instruction manual. If I had only taken the time to read through it completely, rather than skipping to the sections that I needed to set up my cars. I have read through it completely now though! Thanks for all the help.Comment
