    First SAW build.

Hello all, I’m looking into building my friar SAW boat, having recently got back into the hobby, converting an old Traxxas NitroVee to brushless and got her to the boarder of controllable.

So far what I’m looking at is a delta explorer hull, twin motor(Leopard 2860’s). I’m conflicted on using twin rudder pickups for cooling, or building inset hull pickups...

Any advice would be amazing. I’m not looking to start at the raggedy edge but to get there eventually, pushing this hull to its limit. Originally looked at doing a mono jet drive but stopped after research into drawbacks.

The DF Explorer is a quality starting point. I would suggest using a build like this as a blueprint. I prefer the through hull pick-ups on my SAW builds. It's a cleaner look with no external plumbing to get snagged or cut, and takes the rudder out of the equation if you need to adjust it's length during tuning.

Welcome to OSE. I assume that “friar” actually means first. The OP is leaving out vital details if he wants help.

      - What size pond will he be running on?
      - What are his speed expectations?
      - What voltage is he planning on using?
      - Why does he want to use twins instead of a larger single?

Where he gets cooling water is one of the least important parts of his build....

        Ooops that would be important.

The closest pond to me is about 2300 feet long, and have access to about a mile. The local race club uses a pond that’s pretty small and has lots of growth...

Speed wise, looking to hit over 70mph. Using a stop watch my mono, (a modified old NitroVee to brushless) was doing 45-50 till it destroyed the old Traxxas steering servo.

Based on recommendations, I was looking at 2000-2200kv motors on 4 to 6s.

Doing a twin design is simply want for the most part. Also everyone may laugh but counter turning props will counteract any torque issues for my led fingers.

I saw that build looking up images on how to set up a twin cat. Looks awesome, hopefully can do something similar.
